CJLS has been a thought leader on reproductive rights in India. Our advocacy efforts have facilitated systemic change in the domain of sexual and reproductive health and rights (SRHR).

Our work in SRHR has focused on research and sustained advocacy on abortion and reproductive rights and we have actively worked with grassroots organisations, scholars, the judiciary and policy makers to make an impact in this area. Our engagement with this varied spectrum of stakeholders has been instrumental in bringing systemic barriers and concerns to the fore, which we have escalated before public institutions and bodies.

This has been instrumental in examining the contours of the reproductive justice movement and provided impetus to the demand for decriminalisation of abortion and the development of an anti-carceral imagination in India.

OUR RECENT WORK

As a thought leader in queer feminist theory, we have introduced groundbreaking clinical courses, legal workshops and certificate courses to bridge the gap between academia and activism. We engage in collaborative knowledge production with social movements, grassroots organisations, scholars and students. To this end, we teach clinical courses as part of our Law and Marginalisation Clinic, an advocacy-community outreach initiative that seeks to address issues of systemic harms and challenge power structures. We also seek to increase the legal awareness and empowerment of India’s transgender and gender-variant community through the implementation of certificate courses and workshops.
